Action hero Gopichand and popular director Sreenu Vaitla’s much-awaited action comedy entertainer, Viswam, has released in cinemas worldwide this morning. The film’s success is very critical to both Gopichand and Sreenu Vaitla, as they both have been waiting to make a solid comeback. Check out our review to find out if Viswam succeeds in bringing them the much-needed hit.

Story:

Why does Viswam become Gopi? How does he save the little girl Darshana from the terrorists? How are Viswam and Darshana related to each other? What are the twists that unfold in Viswam’s life? Watch the movie to discover the answers yourself

Plus Points:

Gopichand looks quite powerful in and as Viswam. He displays several variations and impresses his fans and movie lovers with his performance in emotional scenes and action sequences. He was pleasantly good in the romantic scenes with Kavya Thapar. And Kavya too leaves a good impression with her glamorous appearance.

Bengali actor Jisshu Sengupta, who appears in a crucial rule in Viswam, showcases his acting prowess yet again. The scenes featuring Jisshu and comedian Sunil will entertain audiences. Comedians Vennela Kishore, Prudhvi, Naresh, Pragati, and VTV Ganesh create a laugh riot in several comedy scenes. Rahul Ramakrishna, Srikanth Iyengar, Ajay Ghosh, and others performed well within the limitations of their characters. ’30 Years Industry’ Prudhvi’s scenes will leave the audiences in splits.

Minus Points:

While director Sreenu Vaitla designs Viswam’s character and his scenes quite well, he could not come up with an interesting treatment. Especially, the second half disappoints with a lackluster narrative. Certain scenes run on a snail-paced and regular template. The mind game between the hero and the villain could have been built more effectively, along with the hero’s flashback episode.

Barring the comedy scenes, the movie feels underwhelming due to the lack of an intriguing screenplay. Even though there was scope for a much better narrative to make the film more engaging, director Sreenu Vaitla chose to run the movie in his signature style, which has become quite a regular template. While the dialogues, hero’s characterization, and the background score earn some brownie points, the rest of the movie ends up being a below average fare. A far more gripping screenplay in the second half and a powerful villain could have altered the fate of the movie.

Technical Aspects:

While Sreenu Vaitla impresses with his taking, he could not succeed in coming up with an arresting screenplay for the storyline he chose. The songs composed by music director Chetan Bhardwaj are decent, and the background score is impressive. Ace cinematographer KV Guhan captures some cool visuals that make the film visually appealing. Editor Amar Reddy could have chopped off a fews scenes that were prolonged unnecessarily. The grand production values indicate that produces TG Vishwa Prasad and Venu Donepudi did not compromise on the making of Viswam.

Verdict:

Viswam is an action comedy entertainer that works in parts thanks to Gopichand’s stylish appearance and impressive performance. The hilarious comedy scenes written by Sreenu Vaitla and the superbly shot grand action sequences are the other major highlights of this high-budget entertainer. However, the lethargic screenplay and an underwhelming second half prove to be the main drawbacks of the movie. We recommend that you keep your expectations in check while watching the movie.
