Mathu Vadalara 2 is the latest Telugu crime comedy and a sequel to the superhit Mathu Vadalara. The film has released today with considerable buzz, and dive into our review to see if it meets expectations.
Story:
Babu (Sri Simha Koduri) and Yesudas (Satya) are special officers in the HE Team, with Nidhi (Faria Abdullah) as their senior. They are assigned a kidnapping case that reveals a deeper mystery involving the murder of a young girl named Riya. As the investigation unfolds, the HE Team suspects Babu and Yesudas of the crime. Who is Riya? Are Babu and Yesudas guilty, or are they being framed? How do film star Yuva (Vennela Kishore) and Akarsh (Akash) fit into the case? Watch the film to discover the answers.
Plus Points:
The film’s strongest asset is Satya, who delivers a remarkable performance with impeccable comedic timing. His interactions with Sri Simha Koduri are particularly entertaining, and his mimicking of Megastar Chiranjeevi’s gestures and dance moves is especially fan-friendly.
Sri Simha Koduri continues to shine in his role, while Faria Abdullah makes a satisfactory contribution. Sunil performs competently, and the rest of the cast effectively fulfills their roles.
Alongside, Vennela Kishore adds a delightful touch with his nice performance, humorous dialogues, and spot-on mimicry of popular figures.
Minus Points:
Ritesh Rana, from the outset, suggests that the story is secondary to the comedy. While Satya’s humour is enjoyable, a more compelling narrative could have enhanced the film’s overall engagement.
The plot is formulaic and predictable. Jeevan and Sunil are underutilised, with Sunil’s role, in particular, falling short of its comedic potential.
Rohini Molleti’s performance lacks impact, and her role does not suit her strengths. The ‘Ori Na Kodaka’ segment could have been better developed for a more engaging experience.
Some dialogues and scenes miss the mark, and the film would have benefited from more creative ideas to captivate the audience.
Technical Aspects:
Ritesh Rana’s direction and writing are competent but not his best work. A stronger focus on a compelling story, alongside Satya’s comedy, could have provided a better balance.
Cinematography by Suresh Sarangam, editing by Karthika Srinivas, and music by Kaala Bhairava are all satisfactory and contribute positively to the film. The production values are also commendable.
Verdict:
On the whole, Mathu Vadalara 2 is a crime comedy that shines primarily due to Satya’s comedic timing and expressions. While some scenes are hilarious, others fall short. The predictable plot is a drawback. If you’re interested in Satya’s comedy and expressions, the film is entertaining. However, compared to its prequel, it feels less fresh but remains decent enough for a good laugh.
